Monkey trees, or monkey puzzle trees, apparently so named as 
it was suggested those crazy shaped leaves and branches would puzzle a monkey, have been a firm family favourite since we used to walk past one regularly before we moved to Cornwall. So, there is clearly no better way to address that enthusiasm than to try and grow one ourselves. Here is an ongoing account of the progress.

Almost three weeks after our grand planting session, I was able to take a look at the first signs of germination from the Monkey Puzzle Tree seeds.

Yes, you do need to! And as mine are inevitably in pots which really restricts the quantity of water that is available at any given time, and then kept in a centrally heated living room on a shelf that just happens to be above a radiator, they really do have a tendency to dehydrate.
